Texas Steel Foundry

Why do we include a web page for Texas Steel? Soon it will physically no longer continue to exist; however, for 96 years it provided an excellent and creative work place for 1,000s of men and women. May we honor a once great business that contributed significantly to the economies of Fort Worth and North Texas for nearly a century.

Melting and Pouring: Texas Steel was equipped with three basic lined electric arc melting furnaces of 8-ton, 12-ton and 30-tone capacities. The furnaces had a combined production rate of 30 tons per hour and heat sizes from 10,000 pounds to 60,000 pounds. Their practices had reduced phosphorous and sulfur levels with the ability to retain alloys in the steel using calcium wire injection and Argon Stirring to produce cleaner steel.

Finishing and Machining: The castings could be delivered at whatever stage of completion that the specifications required. Four separate cleaning/finish facilities ensured that the castings would arrive as requested and flow smoothly into and through the production schedule. In-house machining was available for castings up to 12 feet in diameter.

Knowledge and People: Texas Steel employed some of the top metallurgists in the industry. Although the company used the latest in foundry computer monitoring, nothing could replace skilled professionals. They contributed to the entire industry by helping to develop and update national testing and materials standards and by sharing their knowledge in steel foundry societies.
Foundry Facilities: Texas Steel was a full service foundry providing everything from casting design to machining. All facilities were conveniently located at the company's 29 acre plant site in Fort Worth. In addition to regular ISO audits, Texas Steel had long been a certified supplier to many companies who performed their own audits. Teamwork and communications got results.
World Wide Activities:  Texas Steel castings were at work around the clock, around the glove. The company was a major source for some of the world's largest suppliers of equipment to industries such as construction, mining, energy, railroad and marine. Over half of the end users of Texas Steel castings were overseas.
